Wastewatchers are a group of local residents from King's Cliffe and surrounding villages who have come together to fight this application.
We are not an anti-nuclear group (though some of us have our suspicions), and we have no links to any political party.
Since May 2009 we have been working hard to fight the application.
We have:
- delivered presentations to meetings in the parishes of King's Cliffe, Apethorpe, Barrowden and Wakerley, Elton, Duddington and Laxton.
- collected over 3000 signatures for our petition in Stamford, Corby, Peterborough, Oundle, and King's Cliffe and other villages.
- produced posters for a static display in King's Cliffe, and fliers for handing out with the petition.
- written to councillors, MPs, ministers, news and TV, and contacted environmental organisations.
-sought specialised help from scientists and environmental lawyers.
- given numerous interviews to news media.
- set up a site on Facebook to mobilise support, and construct ed this website.
- secured objections to the application by 6 local Parish Councils, as well as East Northamptonshire District Council, Corby Borough Council, Peterborough City Council, and Northamptonshire County Council.
Over the next few months we will:
- initiate a letter writing campaign to MPs.
- work with our local MP, Louise Bagshawe, who has pledged her support, to raise the issue in Parliament.
- gather expert witnesses to fight our case at the public inquiry in October.
- increase our media profile.
- gather more public support through online media.
- publish a film on YouTube to highlight lack of security at site
